Local traffic measures in Mulgrave

Council has given the go-ahead to install road humps in streets around Brandon Park Drive, Mulgrave.
A recent Local Area Traffic Management Study (LATM) presented to Council at its June meeting identified that the issue of motorists travelling through local streets in the morning (in an attempt to avoid the busy intersections of Ferntree Gully and Springvale roads and Wellington and Springvale roads) was not improving.
Over the past 12 months, residents in the streets bordered by Ferntree Gully Road, Springvale Road, Brandon Park Drive and Lum Road were consulted about their concerns with traffic and road safety, including surveys and public meetings.
The consultation was guided by a committee formed after the first community meeting in May 2018 comprising six residents, Mulgrave Ward Councillors Cr Robert Davies, Cr Paul Klisaris and Cr Shane McCluskey and some Council engineers. The committee met seven times over 12 months.
The collaborative community consultation resulted in the committee recommending the installation of 17 flat-topped road humps on Darley Grove, Earlwood Drive, Blackwood Drive and Academy Avenue, which will cost around $240,000 and be included under Engineering Projects in the 2019/20 $64 million Capital Works Budget.
Construction of the road humps will start in late 2019.
