The redevelopment of Jack Edwards Reserve in Oakleigh is one step closer, with detailed design work underway after Council appointed Katz Architecture for the project at their meeting on Tuesday 31 January 2023.

Home of National Premier League team, the Oakleigh Cannons, the project will see facilities at Jack Edwards Reserve upgraded to provide a new pavilion with facilities which meet the requirements for a National Premier league facility, including:

  • 4 female friendly change rooms
  • 2 female friendly umpire change rooms
  • First aid room
  • Timekeeper and media room
  • 500-seat grandstand
  • Upgrade of the existing LED lighting to 350 lux on the main pitch.

City of Monash Mayor, Cr Tina Samardzija is pleased to see the project progressing.

“This is an investment in local sport expected to cost at least $14.7m, with $8.2m committed from Council and contributions from the Victorian Government, Australian Government, and the Oakleigh Cannons – thanks to everyone who is supporting this.

“We saw what is possible from Monash’s local sporting clubs last year when the Oakleigh Cannons made it to the semi-final of Football Australia’s knockout competition, defeating Sydney FC from the A-League along the way.

“This upgrade will support grassroots football in Monash, including helping the Cannons to establish a women’s program. Facilities will also be available to other community groups and organisations.

“The designs will also be future proofed, so if there’s funding available for future expansion then Jack Edwards Reserve will be able to accommodate this.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the design work progress and work on the timelines for completion,” said Cr Tina Samardzija.
