Privacy Policy
Collection of Personal Information
Council will only collect the personal information it requires from you in order to carry out its statutory and legal responsibilities and to deliver its services. Council complies with the requirements of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014(PDF, 1MB) in carrying out these responsibilities.
We have implemented procedures to ensure your personal information will be protected and kept only as long as is absolutely required by the Council or the law.
Privacy Policy
The Council has prepared the following Privacy Policy to meet its responsibilities under the Health Records Act 2001 and the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. This policy relates to the collection, use and management of, and access to, personal information, as well as a complaints procedure.

Collecting personal information
Council will not release or provide access to personal information to any other person or body, unless (a) it has been authorised to do so by the person to whom the information relates, (b) it is permitted or required to do so by law, or (c) it is appropriate or required in the performance of the functions of Council. If you refuse to supply the requested information we may not be able to process your request. You may gain access to your personal information by contacting Council's Privacy Officer via email at FOIandPrivacy@monash.vic.gov.au

Software providers
Newsletters and mailing lists
Council uses Mailchimp to send its electronic newsletters. Mailchimp is a company based in the USA. Council only provides Mailchimp with information that is necessary to enable the newsletters to be sent out. This information is held securely by Mailchimp on servers in the USA. Survey responses
Council uses Qualtrics and The Hive to collect survey responses from members of the community. The data collected is stored securely by both these providers on Australian servers. Their privacy policies are available at:
Trybooking
There may be occasions where you are directed to Trybooking to register your attendance for a Council-run event. In such instances you will be directed to the Trybooking website. The information you provide to them will be managed in accordance with their privacy policy, which can be found at Trybooking: Privacy Policy.
Use and disclosure of personal information
Council will only use personal information or permit it to be used by a third party under the following circumstances:
- For the primary purpose for which the information is collected
- A purpose directly related to the primary purpose and you would have reasonable expectation that the information would be used or disclosed for that purpose
- To meet statutory or legal requirements
- To meet its service provision responsibilities
Third parties
Information collected by the Council will not be provided to a third party such as a contractor or a government department without your prior knowledge or consent, unless there is a statutory or legal requirement or in order for the Council to meet its service provision responsibilities.
Website
Visitors to our website will not be required to disclose personal information. Tracking of visits to the site will only be conducted for the purposes of collecting statistical information and will not identify you personally.
The website contains links to other sites. Council takes no responsibility for the content or privacy practices of these sites.

Emails
If you send an email to the Council, it will only be recorded to fulfil the purpose for which it is sent. Your details will not be added to a mailing list without your permission.
Access and correction of personal information
You may seek access to or correction of personal information the Council holds about you. Such requests must be made in writing to the Council's Information Privacy Officer, PO Box 1, Glen Waverley 3150.
Complaints regarding breach of privacy
Where you consider there has been a breach of your privacy by Council, you may make a complaint to the Council's Information Privacy Officer.
