Cameron is the Councillor for the Banksia Ward for the period 2024-2028.
Cameron was born and raised in the local community and went to Oakleigh South Primary School in year 6 during the site move. As a junior, he was active in the footy at Scammell’s Reserve and the basketball playing competition in the Waverley Basketball Association. Cameron won a scholarship to Brighton Grammar School, where he completed his secondary education and continued with sporting interests, including tennis, soccer and water polo. It was while playing soccer for the school team in year 10 that Cameron suffered his first ACL rupture, which began a lifelong interest in the workings of the human body, particularly the demands of sport and the processes of healing and training to get back to a competitive fitness level.
In the early 2000s, Cameron helped his parents, Brian, a telecommunications engineer, and Jan, a child and maternal nurse, with their campaign to save the Oakleigh swimming pool from closure. This campaign featured distributing lengths of blue ribbon to households that supported the campaign for display on their fences. This gave Cameron a strong sense of the importance of local government in the community and the power to make improvements. When his father ran for local government and was elected, it became a constant topic of conversation in the household.
Cameron studied physiotherapy at La Trobe University. He went on to a professional career in physiotherapy with an emphasis on sporting injuries and rehabilitation. His career has included 18 months in Beijing as a Chinese Olympic team physiotherapist, managing rehabilitation and training for several Olympic gold medallists and a WTA and ATP tour physiotherapist for professional tennis players. He furthered his education by gaining a Masters in Clinical Physiotherapy (Sports) and a graduate certificate in manipulative physiotherapy from Curtin University in Perth. In 2021, he started his own business treating NDIS and HCP patients in the community. This business has expanded rapidly since its inception and now provides rehabilitation services to over 500 active NDIS and aged community members.
Cameron is still a local boy and appreciates spending time with his family, engaging in local sports, especially tennis and cycling, and enjoying Monash's green spaces. He has run several marathons, including the gruelling Great Wall of China marathon and some triathlon events. His strong commitment to the residents of Banksia Ward is born from his earlier family life and a commitment to bring meaningful change to the lives of both individuals and the community.
