Get Active Grants

In December 2010, Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sports Without Borders and the Pinewood Community Bank to support the introduction of a program to provide assistance to people from migrant and refugee backgrounds living in Monash who are involved or want to get involved in sport.

For many years Council has offered residents and sporting clubs two streams of funding for sporting pursuits through the Recreation Services Sports Grants program - the Individual Sports Grants and the Sports Clubs Innovative Programs Grant Assistance Scheme.

However the signing of the memorandum (MoU) highlighted the need for Council to review the existing sports grant allocation process, and consider broadening the program to include a larger portion of the community.

As part of the review it was recommended to introduce a new 'Get Active Grants' program that would include four different funding streams with new eligibility criteria. The introduction of the new 'Get Active' Grants Program to replace the Sports Grants program was supported by Council in April, and is outlined below:

Guidelines

Get Started

Participants experiencing financial challenges with getting involved in sport.

  • Participants must be a resident of Monash.
  • Participants must present a Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card (supporting documentation from State Government or welfare agency would also be considered).
  • Participants must demonstrate the intention to join a sporting club or activity by supplying the appropriate documentation.
  • Maximum grant is $100 per participant per year.

Get Better

Participants representing a sport at a state, national or international level.

  • Participants must be a resident of Monash.
  • Participants must demonstrate that they are representing a sport at a state, national or international level by supplying the appropriate documentation.
  • Maximum grant is $250 per participant per year.

Get Inclusive

Recreation or sporting clubs introducing inclusive or innovative programs.

  • Recreation or sporting club must be based in Monash.
  • Club must demonstrate a need for the proposed program.
  • Club must demonstrate how the new program will promote an inclusive environment for members and the community.
  • Maximum grant is $500 per club per year.

Sports Without Borders

New arrivals or refugees wishing to get involved in sport.

  • As per the Sports Without Borders funding criteria.
  • Applicants and funding for this stream will be administered by the Sports Without Borders Foundation.
