What is Monash 2021?
Predicting the future is a difficult thing to do because change can be rapid and unpredictable - and it is inevitable.
Despite this, it is important to have a vision and plan for the future so you're in the best possible position to manage change and create opportunities.
Council has a track record of planning for the future. In 2002 Council consulted with the community and developed Monash 2021. This strategy outlined Council's vision and directions in ten priority areas and has guided Council's strategies, Council Plans and decision-making over the years.
In December 2009 Council undertook a review of 'Monash 2021' to produce a new long term strategy to guide the city's future strategic direction for the next ten years and to promote Monash as a City of Choice' for residents, business and visitors.
Engagement with the community has been a feature in the development of the strategy. 300 community members and staff contributed to the original strategy and the review in 2006. Along with this engagement, 'Snapshot Reports' of progress against the strategies of the ten major theme areas were reported to the community via the Monash Bulletin.
During 2010 we engaged in conversation with the community and stakeholders about what's important to them and for the future of Monash. Overall a total of 546 members of the community, and in addition Councillors and 50 staff have provided feedback on the development of the new strategy. This level of community involvement has ensured that Monash 2021 'a thriving community' represents key focus areas supported by the community.
Monash 2021 - a thriving community is the result of these conversations and of ongoing research and thinking that takes place across Council. The plan outlines our vision and the priorities we will focus on to deliver long term community strength and benefits.
