Strategic Economic Development
The aim of the Regional Strategy is to enhance the level of collaboration between government, business, educational institutions and the private sector, to develop a framework to guide regional economic decision-making, and to identify and commence delivery of a set of projects to facilitate positive economic change.
The second year of the Economic Development Strategy 2008 – 2012 was implemented. Some of the major actions included a submission to the Department of Planning and Community Development regarding the Retail Policy Review Discussion Paper.
Council resolved to become a Fair Trade Community and appointed a steering group to guide the promotion of Fair Trade Products to local businesses, schools and organisations.

Last May, Monash became the first council in Australia to launch an online economic profile. The City of Monash partnered with demographic profiling and forecasting company .id consulting (informed decisions) to create an online product designed to make local area economic and workforce information available across the council and to the wider community.
Some of the information contained in this annual report is sourced from the website www.id.com.au/economy/monash
This is an exciting new way to share important economic information to assist in the development of local industries and to help attract new industry and investment within the City of Monash. The development of this product supports and enhances Council's suite of demographic information for the city.
