Chinese New Year Message
Message from Monash Mayor Cr Stefanie Perri and Deputy Mayor Jieh-Yung Lo
23 January 2012
A Happy New Year to you all.
As the newly elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Monash, we know it is a privilege to represent the Monash community as we prepare to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Dragon.
We would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to you, your families and friends to join us at the very popular Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival in Glen Waverley on 5 February from 11am to 8pm.
Each year this event draws a big crowd, with festival-goers soaking up the colour, culture and celebrations of a festival which includes plenty of entertainment for families of all ages. Art, music, dance performances as well as a karaoke competition will be just some of the fantastic events that will keep us entertained as we bring in the Year of the Dragon together as a community. More detail, including a program of events, is available at Council's website - The Dragon Comes to Kingsway.
The Year of the Dragon is considered to be the most auspicious sign of the zodiac, with the dragon being the only mythical animal represented in the Chinese calendar.
Once again, we'd like to wish you all a very happy New Year to you and your families and we both look forward to seeing you at the Festival on 5 February, and at other celebrations taking place around the municipality.
