Employment Conditions
The terms and conditions of employment for the Monash City Council employees are governed in accordance with the relevant Local Area Work Agreement, Monash City Council Enterprise Agreement and the appropriate Award. All these agreements enable us to offer flexible and competitive employee conditions.
- Annual Leave
After completing 12 months continuous service all full-time employees (pro-rata for part-time employees) are entitled to four (4) weeks annual leave per annum. Most employees are also paid 17.5% annual leave loading. - Sick Leave
All employees are entitled to sick leave but the number of days varies according to the relevant Award. Unused sick leave accrues for the period of your service with the Council. - Personal Carer's Leave
Employees who have responsibilities for the care and support of their immediate family (children, spouse, parent, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) or other members of their household can use their sick leave entitlement which accrued on or after the 19 May 1995, to provide urgent support. This need may arise in situations of severe illness, periods of convalescence following an operation, etc. - Maternity Leave
Employees with twelve (12) months or more continuous service who become pregnant are entitled to a period of up to fifty two (52) weeks parental leave of which the first fourteen (14) weeks are paid. - Paternity Leave
Male employees with 12 months or more continuous service prior to the expected date of confinement shall be granted five days paid paternity leave to be taken one week prior to the expected date of confinement or no later than six weeks following the confinement. - Parental Leave
Employees with 12 months or more continuous service who become pregnant or in the case of adoption, are the primary care giver are entitled to a period of up to 52 weeks unpaid parental leave. - 48/52 Model of Employment
48/52 model of employment is a separate model of employment, whereby the employee receives 4 weeks recreation leave and an additional 4 weeks unpaid leave per year (plus other leave entitlements) and is paid for 52 weeks per year at the fractional rate of 48/52 of the annual salary for his/her position. - Long Service Leave
With few exceptions, all employees are entitled to long service leave. Employees covered by the Interim and Maternal & Child Health Nurses Award accrue leave after 10 years whereas Nurses and Allied Health employees accrue leave after 15 years of continuous service. - Study Leave
Employees may be granted up to one half day per week to attend a recognised course which is not available after hours. - Defence Forces Leave
Employees who are members of the Defence Forces may be granted leave to attend camps and training courses. Council will pay the ordinary salary to the employee for that period and the employee must refund the amount they receive from the defence force for the ordinary hours of work. - Salary Sacrifice
The opportunity to "sacrifice" part of your cash salary into additional superannuation contributions. - Induction Program
A comprehensive induction program provides employees with an understanding of the organisation, how local government fits within the three levels of government, a number of information sessions, an opportunity to meet the CEO and a bus tour of the municipality.
