What you can do - Energy and Climate Change
Make improvements at your rooming house - Save money save energy
If your property is a registered Victorian Rooming House you are eligible to apply for a free energy and water assessment and retrofit.
The Rooming Houses Project provides free energy and water assessments and upgrades to common areas of registered rooming houses.
The project offers three main benefits to landlords and their tenants including:
- reduced energy and water usage
- improved amenity and comfort - houses are warmer in winter and cooler in summer
- improved environmental outcomes
Solar hot water
Installing a solar hot water system is one of the best ways you can save money on energy bills and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions by as much as four tonnes of CO2 per year - the equivalent of taking one car off the road

There are many different solar hot water types:
Photovoltaic (PV) panels
Photovoltaic cells convert light energy from sunlight into electricity resulting in no greenhouse gas emissions.
