Monash Young Persons Reference Group

Monash Young Persons Reference Group

You are between the age of 14 and 25 years. Yes? Maybe you can't yet vote?

But you do have a VOICE.

An issue frustrates you every time you read the newspaper, but YOU have a solution no one has yet considered, big or small.

Do you know someone affected by homelessness? We ran Monash's Big Sleep Out in 2013 to raise awareness and collected food donations for those in need.

You had to vote in the last council election but don't know the councillors personally? Well we have one as part of our group to talk to, who listens and acts on our advice.

It will look good on your resume too. Want to be our media officer, or official photographer, perhaps the treasurer, or chair person?

Here are just a few of our many proud achievements

  • The Natural Confidence Positive Body Image Photography Competition
  • Encouraging Monash City Council to become a Fair Trade Community and use fair trade products
  • Encouraging Monash City Council to use energy saving light globes and uses water jugs instead of bottled water
  • Raising awareness of mental health - 2012 Mental Health and Wellbeing Expo
  • Raising awareness on the issue of Youth Homelessness with the 2013 Big Sleep Out
  • Providing feedback and recommendations on the recent Graffiti Laneway Project

Recreational activities in a supportive and supervised environment

ACTIVATE is a Program for young people aged 10-17 yrs living in the Chadstone/Ashwood area.

ACTIVATE has plenty of space for young people to be with their friends in a supervised and safe environment while undertaking free activities.

ACTIVATE has cool equipment including pool tables and a full basketball court. We also have a Play station and a Nintendo Wii.

ACTIVATE workers arrange some food for the night and young people can help cook.

ACTIVATE workers are all professional Youth Workers able and willing to offer support and someone to talk to if required.

Where does it happen?

ACTIVATE is run at the Jordanville Community Centre, Corner Batesford Rd and Power Ave, Chadstone.
Contact details for the program are: 9518 3900 or 0417 023 739 during program times.

When does it happen?

ACTIVATE is open Wednesdays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm (except on public holidays and school holidays). We occasionally have social outings during the school holidays.

Why did it come about?

City of Monash Council's Youth & Family Services have an ongoing commitment to the Young People in the Chadstone/Ashwood area. We provide young people with recreational activities in a supportive and supervised environment. All projects and activities are developed and coordinated in partnership with the Young Persons Reference Group.
