Damper Creek Reserve

Prior to European settelment, the vegetation community associated with Sclerophyll Forest further upslope, would have been widespread throughout the east and south-east of Melbourne, but is now represented by small remnants such as Damper Creek and Valley Reserves (City of Monash 1990).

The restored vegetation represents some of the best examples of revegetation, and together with remnant trees and shrubs, provides a diversity of microhabitats for vertebrates suitable foraging, nesting and perching substrate for a variety of native wildlife (within a largely developed landscape.

Flora

Grassy Open Forest or Woodland:
  • Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora)
  • Silver-leaf Stringybark (E. cephalocarpa)
  • Swamp Gum (E. ovata)
Riparian - Swamp Scrub Complex:
  • Swamp Paperbark (Melaleuca ericifolia)

Fauna

  • National Significance - The Southern Bell Frog (Litoria raniformis)
  • State Significance - The Grey-headed Flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus)
  • Regional Significance (13 Species)
