Melbourne South East Regional Strategy
Melbourne's South East brings together eleven municipalities, utility providers, the State and Federal Government and Monash University to market and promote the region.
The South East region of Melbourne is in effect a self contained city of more than one million people. It is larger than Adelaide and adds a city the size of Bendigo to its population each year.
The self contained nature of the region is underlined by the fact that 80% of the region's jobs are filled by local residents.
The Council members are: Bayside, Cardinia, Casey, Frankston, Greater Dandenong, Kingston, Knox, Maroondah, Monash, Mornington Peninsula, and Whitehorse; the Utility Providers of South East Water, Telstra and Alinta; Monash University and the economic development agencies of the State and Commonwealth Governments.
A Regional Economic Strategy focuses on delivering sustainable prosperity and liveability to our region and provides a long-term framework for the economic and strategic development of the Region 2003-2030.
The research and analysis that underpins the Strategy has provided a new perspective of Melbourne?s South East as a clearly identifiable region of national significance.
One of the key regional projects is the Technology Capabilities Alignment Project which is a program designed to align the research and development capabilities of Victoria's South East region with the technology needs of businesses within Metropolitan Melbourne and the South East Victoria region.
