Food Premises

Every food business proprietor who prepares and/or stores food for sale has a legal obligation to notify or register with their local Council.

The Food Act 1984 defines four different Classes of food premises, each with independent registration or notification requirements. To find out which Class your food business falls into please contact Council's Public Health Unit on 9518 3539.

  • To assist food business operators 'Food premises design and fit out guidelines' are available. Prior to commencement of any works in a food premises it is recommended to submit two copies of plans (1:100) to the Public Health Unit for approval. Please Note: if plans are not submitted, any works undertaken must comply with the Food Standards Code.
